I love love love spending time with Jackson. Which makes sense as my love language is quality time.
But October-March is Jackson’s busy season and this means I have a lot of free time on my hands. I’ve learned, and continue to learn, to be creative with my time, instead of waiting around for him to come home.
Check out my list of things to keep you occupied when you’ve got time to yourself. If you have any other ideas, I’d love to know! Leave a note in the comment section.
10 Things To Do By Yourself

2. Try a new recipe
I love testing out new recipes in my free time. It’s the perfect time to try something new and experiment in the kitchen. If you’re looking for a tasty treat, try my Healthy Carrot Cake Banana Bread. Leaning toward something more savory? Whip up some of Jackson’s Healthy Homemade Turkey Burgers. Or finally get around to making one of the recipes collecting dust on your Pinterest board.
3. Watch a movie
Cuddle up on the couch with a big bowl of popcorn, sit back, and enjoy the show. Choose something on Netflix you’ve never seen or one of those movies you’ve had forever, always love, but haven’t watched it in years.
4. Do a puzzle
Not everyone’s a puzzle person, but I sure am! Few things compare to finding just the right piece and clicking it into place.
5. Learn a new skill
Think of something you wish you knew how to do. Then hop on YouTube and learn it! There’s literally loads of information waiting for you. If there’s something you don’t know, there’s a resource on the internet that will lead you to that information.
6. Go for a run.
What makes running such a great solo activity is that you’re not holding anyone back and they’re not holding you back. I love running with Jackson, but he will always be faster than me. I get a much better workout than he does when we run together because he sticks to my pace. This makes running in my free time a win win for the both of us.
7. Meal plan
Meal planning is great, but we don’t always make time for it. Alone time is perfect for seeking out new recipes and making a list of what you need from the grocery store. Meal planning helps you stick to your health and financial goals. You’ll have everything you need for meals instead of resorting to last minute takeout.
8. Go shopping
Get out of the house and check out the local shops. I love going for a walk downtown and popping into my favorite stores. Grab a coffee and get some steps in. I don’t know many people who are opposed to killing a couple hours in Target.
9. Clean and organize
Throw on your favorite Pandora station and get to work. It might sound lame, but when I clean the whole place in one shot there’s a sense of productivity and accomplishment that makes it all worth it. Sometimes I just pick out an area to reorganize such as movies, towel closet, or shoe piles. Either way, it makes me feel efficient and accomplished.
10. Rollerblade, ice skate, or bike
Depending on the season, lace up those ice skates or snap on the rollerblades. Enjoy some physical activity and fresh air.
